Completed Trades For 2012 Post Season Draft Period

ADELAIDE CROWS
Received:
-Angus Graham (Richmond) as part of pick 40 deal
-Pick 50 (Richmond) as part of pick 40 deal
Lost:
-Chris Knights (Richmond) as a free agent
-Pick 40 (Richmond) as part of Graham/pick 50 deal
Wash Up: Got a semi experienced ruckman to back up Sam Jacobs in Angus Graham who never managed to cement a spot in the Richmond line up. They lost mid/for left footer Chris Knights to the Tigers, 2 years ago he kicked 35+ goals and was a real weapon for the Crows but couldn't get things happening this season. Could be in a heap of trouble with the alleged $200K under the table Tippett drama which has saw him not only get to the team of his choice in Sydney but could see him picked up in the pre-season draft to a team like GWS or the Suns which would peeve him no end I would think, not to mention the Swans and Crows. Talk about a disaster, a forgettable trade period.
BRISBANE LIONS
Received:
-Brent Moloney (Melbourne) as a free agent
-Stefan Martin (Melbourne) as part of pick 53/pick 73 deal
Lost:
-Pick 53 (Melbourne) as part of Stefan Martin deal
-Pick 73 (Melbourne) as part of Stefan Martin deal
Wash Up: After showing promise late season Melbourne duo Brent Moloney and Stefan Martin should slot in nicely. With Black ageing Moloney gives them a quality in and under clearance player and a backup ruckman who can also play key defence in Martin. If Leuenberger can get fit the Lions will have ample ruckmen to pick from with Billy Longer only going to improve. Ended up a nice little trade period for the Lions.
CARLTON
Received:
-Pick 71 (Collingwood) for Jordan Russell
Lost:
-Jordan Russell (Collingwood) for pick 71
Wash Up: With all the hub bub about Mick Malthouse taking over as coach and Tippett and all the other trade going's on Carlton very much played virtually no part in the trade period off loading Jordan Russell who was top 3 in the best and fairest in 2010 for pick 71 to Collingwood. I know he hasn't exactly been a permanent fixture in the Blues team the last couple of seasons Russell for pick 71, sees like a loss for Carlton to me.
COLLINGWOOD
Received:
-Quinten Lynch (West Coast) as a free agent
-Clinton Young (Hawthorn) as a free agent
-Pick 17 (West Coast) for Sharrod Wellingham
-Pick 20 (Melbourne) as part of Dawes/pick 58 deal
-Pick 45 (Melbourne) as part of Dawes/pick 58 deal
-Jordan Russell (Carlton) for pick 71 (traded from Western Bulldogs)
-Pick 39 (North Melbourne) as part of pick 42/pick 48 deal
Lost:
-Sharrod Wellingham (West Coast) for pick 17
-Chris Dawes (Melbourne) as part of pick 20/pick 45 deal
-Pick 58 (Melbourne) as part of pick 20/pick 45 deal
-Tom Young (Western Bulldogs) for pick 71 (on-traded to Carlton)
-Pick 42 (North Melbourne) as part of pick 39 deal
-Pick 48 (North Melbourne) as part of pick 39 deal
Wash Up: Seems like Nathan Buckley and the Pies recruiting team recognised that maybe the Magpies premiership window had either closed or was about to because they wheeled and dealed more than a card dealer at a Vegas poker table. Acquired Quinten Lynch from the Eagles who can play the Chris Dawes role of key forward and back up ruckman, and it cost them nothing as he was a free agent. Got Clinton Young from Hawthorn who was also a free agent giving them a pacy, thumping left foot running back/wingman. And in my opinion Jordan Russell for pick 71 was a steal. They did lose Sharrod Wellingham who is underated from my perspective, Chris Dawes who was out of place as second ruckman and Tom Young who is expendable. Have done brilliantly, great trading.
ESSENDON
Received:
-Brendon Goddard (St Kilda) as a free agent
-Pick 48 (Port Adelaide) for Angus Monfries
Lost:
-Angus Monfries (Port Adelaide) for pick 48
Wash Up: After years of non events in the post season trading department the Dons have landed one of the ost sort after free agents there is likely to be for years. Goddard's form may not have been what it was in 2010 but sometimes a change of teams can invigorate a player. Monfries is a bad loss he was played out of position in the Hird coached era as a defensive forward, he is much better as a creative forward. Bottom line though what a coup!
FREMANTLE
Received:
-Danyle Pearce (Port Adelaide) as a free agent
-Pick 37 (Gold Coast) as part of Broughton/pick 60 deal
Lost:
-Greg Broughton (Gold Coast) as part of pick 37 deal
-Pick 60 (Gold Coast) as part of pick 37 deal
Wash Up: Added some much needed pace and skill in Danyle Pearce as a free agent but then did an odd thing in trading Greg Broughton and pick 60 for pick 37 to the Gold Coast which I find difficult to understand unless he wanted to go, but with Pearce they come out ahead.
GEELONG
Received:
-Jared Rivers (Melbourne) as a free agent
-Hamish McIntosh (North Melbourne) for pick 36
-Josh Caddy (Gold Coast) as part of pick R1 compo pick/pick 55 deal
Lost:
-Shannon Byrnes (Melbourne) as a free agent
-Pick 36 (North Melbourne) for Hamish McIntosh
-R1 compensation pick (Gold Coast) as part of Caddy deal
-Pick 55 (Gold Coast) as part of Caddy deal
Wash Up: Almost did the best out of every team I reckon Jared Rivers who can play tall/small back/forward, Hamish McIntosh who is a number 1 ruckman in my book and pacy thumping kicker Josh Caddy and out of that they only lost Shannon Byrnes, picks 36,55 and a round 1 pick. What a series of trades pick of the lot!
GOLD COAST
Received:
-Tom Murphy (Hawthorn) as a free agent
-Pick 1 in GWS mini-draft (to be used on Jack Martin) as part of pick 2/R1 compo pick/pick 63 deal
-2011 end-of-R1 compensation pick (GWS) as part of pick 2/R1 compo pick/pick 63 deal
-R1 compensation pick (Geelong) as part of Caddy deal
-Pick 55 (Geelong) as part of Caddy deal
-Pick 13 (St Kilda) as part of Hickey/pick 26/pick 47 deal
-Pick 57 (St Kilda) as part of Hickey/pick 26/pick 47 deal
-Greg Broughton (Fremantle) as part of deal for pick 37 (traded from St Kilda)
-Pick 60 (Fremantle) as part of deal for pick 37 (traded from St Kilda)
Lost:
-Pick 2 (GWS) as part of Martin/R1 compo pick deal
-2010 end-of-R1 compensation pick (GWS) as part of Martin/R1 compo pick deal
-Pick 63 (GWS) as part of Martin/R1 compo pick deal
-Josh Caddy (Geelong) as part of pick R1 compo pick/pick 55 deal
-Tom Hickey (St Kilda) as part of pick 13/pick 37 (on-traded to Fremantle)/pick 57 deal
-Pick 26 (St Kilda) as part of pick 13/pick 37 (on-traded to Fremantle)/pick 57 deal
-Pick 47 (St Kilda) as part of pick 13/pick 37 (on-traded to Fremantle)/pick 57 deal
Wash Up: Got some experience for their defence with Tom Murphy and Greg Broughton but lost potential superstar Josh Caddy and up and coming ruckman Tom Hickey plus a heap of picks were  moved around. Depending on what they draft they have lost out.
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
Received:
-Pick 2 (Gold Coast) as part of Martin/R1 compo pick deal
-2010 end-of-R1 compensation pick (Gold Coast) as part of Martin/R1 compo pick deal
-Pick 63 (Gold Coast) as part of Martin/R1 compo pick deal
-Pick 12 (St Kilda) as part of Lee/pick 24/pick 43 deal
-Pick 3 (Melbourne) as part of Barry/Hogan/pick 20 deal
-Pick 13 (Melbourne) as part of Barry/Hogan/pick 20 deal
-Stephen Gilham (Hawthorn) as part of Anderson/pick 29 (traded from Port Adelaide)/pick 68 deal
-Pick 28 (Hawthorn) as part of Anderson/pick 29 (traded from Port Adelaide)/pick 68 deal
-Pick 65 (Hawthorn) as part of Anderson/pick 29 (traded from Port Adelaide)/pick 68 deal
Lost:
-Pick 1 in GWS mini-draft (to be used on Jack Martin by Gold Coast) as part of pick 2/R1 compo pick/pick 63 deal
-2011 end-of-R1 compensation pick (Gold Coast) as part of pick 2/R1 compo pick/pick 63 deal
-Tom Lee (pre-listed) to St Kilda as part of pick 12 deal
-Pick 24 (St Kilda) as part of pick 12 deal
-Pick 43 (St Kilda) as part of pick 12 deal
-Dominic Barry (pre-listed) to Melbourne as part of pick 3/pick 13 deal
-Pick 2 in GWS mini-draft (to be used on Jesse Hogan by Melbourne) as part of pick 3/pick 13 deal
-Pick 20 (Melbourne) as part of pick 3/pick 13 deal
-Jack Hombsch (Port Adelaide) as part of deal for pick 29 (on-traded to Hawthorn)
-Jake Neade (pre-listed) to Port Adelaide as part of deal for pick 29 (on-traded to Hawthorn)
-Jed Anderson (pre-listed) to Hawthorn as part of Gilham/pick 28/pick 65 deal
-Pick 68 (Hawthorn) as part of Gilham/pick 28/pick 65 deal
Wash Up: Lots of trading but really besides picks they got Stephen Gilham from Hawthorn and lost Jack Hombsch. If he didn't want to leave not sure why they would have done this, but a proven experienced key defender is a bonus for this young team.
HAWTHORN
Received:
-Brian Lake (Western Bulldogs) as part of pick 21/pick 41 deal
-Pick 27 (Western Bulldogs) as part of pick 21/pick 41 deal
-Matt Spangher (Sydney) as part of deal for pick 66 (Young compo)
-Pick 72 (Sydney) as part of deal for pick 66 (Young compo)
-Jed Anderson (GWS pre-list) as part of Gilham/pick 28/pick 65 deal
-Pick 29 (GWS) as part of Gilham/pick 28/pick 65 deal
-Pick 68 (GWS) as part of Gilham/pick 28/pick 65 deal
Lost:
-Tom Murphy (Gold Coast) as a free agent
- Clint Young (Collingwood) as a free agent for pick 66 (on-traded to Sydney)
-Pick 21 (Western Bulldogs) as part of Lake/pick 27 deal
-Pick 41 (Western Bulldogs) as part of Lake/pick 27 deal
-Stephen Gilham (GWS) as part of Anderson/pick 29/pick 68 deal
-Pick 28 (GWS) as part of Anderson/pick 29/pick 68 deal
-Pick 65 (GWS) as part of Anderson/pick 29/pick 68 deal
Wash Up: Got exactly what they needed, a full back of A grade quality in Brian Lake as well as ex-swan/eagle big man Matt Spangher. Tom Murphy was an emergency for the Grand Final so has to feel a bit shafted, Gilham is no longer required but Clinton Young is not only a huge loss for basically no return but also to leave a team at it's peak that is  likely to push for premierships for at least the next 3 season's as far as I'm concerned is a mystery to me. Considering they have more piercing left foot running half backs than any other team in the history of the VFL/AFL Young/Gilham and Murphy's departure is more than compensated by the arrival of Brian Lake. Great work.
MELBOURNE
Received:
-Shannon Byrnes (Geelong) as a free agent
-Pick 49 (free agency compensation) for losing Brent Moloney (Brisbane Lions) and Jared Rivers (Geelong) - Byrnes acquisition factored in here too
-Dominic Barry (GWS pre-list) as part of pick 3/pick 13 deal
-Pick 2 in GWS mini-draft (to be used on Jesse Hogan) as part of pick 3/pick 13 deal
-Chris Dawes (Collingwood) as part of pick 20 (traded from GWS)/pick 45 deal
-Pick 58 (Collingwood) as part of pick 20 (traded from GWS)/pick 45 deal
-David Rodan (Port Adelaide) for pick 88 (on-traded to West Coast)
-Cameron Pedersen (North Melbourne) as part of Gysberts/pick 63 deal
-Pick 74 (North Melbourne) as part of Gysberts/pick 63 deal
-Pick 53 (Brisbane Lions) as part of Stefan Martin deal
-Pick 73 (Brisbane Lions) as part of Stefan Martin deal
Lost:
-Brent Moloney (Brisbane Lions) as a free agent
-Jared Rivers (Geelong) as a free agent
-Pick 3 (GWS) as part of deal for Barry/Hogan/pick 20 (on-traded to Collingwood)
-Pick 13 (GWS) as part of deal for Barry/Hogan/pick 20 (on-traded to Collingwood)
-Pick 45 (Collingwood) as part of Dawes/pick 58 deal
-Cale Morton (West Coast) for pick 88 (on-traded from Port Adelaide)
-Jordan Gysberts (North Melbourne) as part of deal for Pedersen/pick 74 (traded from Richmond)
-Pick 63 (North Melbourne) as part of deal for Pedersen/pick 74 (traded from Richmond)
-Stefan Martin (Brisbane Lions) as part of pick 53/pick 73 deal
Wash Up: Players going left and right, not surprisingly after Mark Neeld's first year was a train wreck. They have lost Moloney, Rivers, Morton, Gysberts and Martin. In return they attained Shannon Byrnes, Dominic Barry, Chris Dawes, David Rodan and Cameron Pederson. Intersting coming's and going's I'm not going to make a call on this set of trades other than in the end I'm not sure they have gained alot out of all this paper work.
NORTH MELBOURNE
Received:
-Pick 36 (Geelong) for Hamish McIntosh
-Jordan Gysberts (Melbourne) as part of deal for Pedersen/pick 74 (traded from Richmond)
-Pick 63 (Melbourne) as part of deal for Pedersen/pick 74 (traded from Richmond)
-Pick 42 (Collingwood) as part of pick 39 deal
-Pick 48 (Collingwood) as part of pick 39 deal
Lost:
-Hamish McIntosh (Geelong) for pick 36
-Aaron Edwards (Richmond) for pick 74 (on-traded to Melbourne)
-Cameron Pedersen (Melbourne) as part of Gysberts/pick 63 deal
-Pick 39 (Collingwood) as part of pick 42/pick 48 deal
Wash Up: Got absolutely raped if you ask me, lost McIntosh, Edwards and Pederson and got Gysberts and picks 36/42/48 and 63. What a mess.
PORT ADELAIDE
Received:
-Pick 30 (free agency compensation) for losing Danyle Pearce (Fremantle)
-Pick 31 (free agency compensation) for losing Troy Chaplin (Richmond)
-Angus Monfries (Essendon) for pick 48
-Jack Hombsch (GWS) as part of pick 29 deal
-Jake Neade (GWS pre-list) as part of pick 29 deal
-Lewis Stevenson (West Coast) for pick 88 (traded from Melbourne)
-Campbell Heath (Sydney) as part of pick 72 deal
-Pick 85 (Sydney) as part of pick 72 deal
Lost:
- Danyle Pearce (Fremantle) as a free agent
- Troy Chaplin (Richmond) as a free agent
-Pick 48 (Essendon) for Angus Monfries
-Pick 29 (GWS) as part of Hombsch/Neade deal
-David Rodan (Melbourne) for pick 88 (on-traded to West Coast)
-Pick 72 (Sydney) as part of Heath/pick 85 deal
Wash Up: Monfries and Hombsch are great pick ups but losing Chaplin and Pearce and Rodan is somewhat of a disaster. Maybe discarded players Lewis Stevenson and Campbell Heath can step up to the plate otherwise Port fan's could be looking for other hobbies next year.
RICHMOND
Received:
-Chris Knights (Adelaide) as a free agent
-Troy Chaplin (Port Adelaide) as a free agent
-Pick 40 (Adelaide) as part of Graham/pick 50 deal
-Aaron Edwards (North Melbourne) for pick 74
Lost:
-Angus Graham (Adelaide) as part of pick 40 deal
-Pick 50 (Adelaide) as part of pick 40 deal
-Pick 74 (North Melbourne) for Aaron Edwards
Wash Up: Probably rival Geelong as the big winners of the trade period by gaining Knights, Chaplin and Aaron Edwards and only losing Angus Graham and picks 50 and 74, great stuff Richmond recruiters.
ST KILDA
Received:
-Tom Lee (GWS pre-list) as part of pick 12 deal
-Pick 24 (GWS) as part of pick 12 deal
-Pick 43 (GWS) as part of pick 12 deal
-Tom Hickey (Gold Coast) as part of pick 13 (Goddard compo)/pick 37/pick 57 deal
-Pick 26 (Gold Coast) as part of pick 13 (Goddard compo)/pick 37/pick 57 deal
-Trent Dennis-Lane (Sydney) for pick 47 (traded from Gold Coast)
-Pick 41 (West Coast) as part of Cripps/pick 46 deal
-Pick 44 (West Coast) as part of Cripps/pick 46 deal
Lost:
-Brendon Goddard (Essendon) as a free agent for pick 13 (on-traded to Gold Coast)
-Pick 12 (GWS) as part of Lee/pick 24/pick 43 deal
-Pick 37 (Gold Coast) as part of deal for Hickey/pick 26/pick 47 (on-traded to Sydney)
-Pick 57 (Gold Coast) as part of deal for Hickey/pick 26/pick 47 (on-traded to Sydney)
-Jamie Cripps (West Coast) as part of pick 41/pick 44
-Pick 46 (West Coast) as part of pick 41/pick 44
Wash Up: Will forever be shattered on Goddard as Tom Lee and Tom Hickey are hardly the most excitable youngsters getting about. But they did do one of the most intriguing trades of the period in picking up Swans reject Trent Dennis-Lane, this for most other teams wouldn't be intriguing but as the Saints have a raft of quick, smart small forwards already getting another one seems a bit odd to me. All up lost out big time.
SYDNEY SWANS
Received:
-Pick 66 (Young compo) from Hawthorn as part of deal for Spangher/pick 72 (traded from Port Adelaide)
-Pick 47 (St Kilda) for Trent Dennis-Lane
Lost:
-Campbell Heath (Port Adelaide) as part of deal for pick 72 (on-traded to Hawthorn)
-Pick 85 (Port Adelaide) as part of deal for pick 72 (on-traded to Hawthorn)
-Matt Spangher (Hawthorn) as part of deal for pick 66 (Young compo)
-Trent Dennis-Lane (St Kilda) for pick 47
Wash Up: After just winning a premiership when I considered them an outside chance for the finals pre-season 2012 they hardly needed to do much, however the defunct trade of Crows giant forward Kurt Tippett would have got right up their noses as with him deep forward with Sam Reid man what marking power. Anyway what they off loaded will not hurt 1 bit.
WEST COAST
Received:
-Pick 62 (free agency compensation) for losing Quinten Lynch (Collingwood)
-Sharrod Wellingham (Collingwood) for pick 17
-Cale Morton (Melbourne) for pick 88 (on-traded from Port Adelaide)
-Jamie Cripps (St Kilda) as part of deal for pick 41/pick 44 (traded from Western Bulldogs)
-Pick 46 (St Kilda) as part of deal for pick 41/pick 44 (traded from Western Bulldogs)
Lost:
-Quinten Lynch (Collingwood) as a free agent
-Pick 17 (Collingwood) for Sharrod Wellingham
-Koby Stevens (Western Bulldogs) for pick 44 (on-traded to St Kilda)
-Lewis Stevenson (Port Adelaide) for pick 88 (on-traded to Melbourne)
-Pick 41 (St Kilda) as part of Cripps/pick 46 deal
Wash Up: Lost the big Q and strugglers Koby Stevens and Lewis Stevenson but got a great onball marking player in Sharrod Wellingham, Cale Morton who can't seem to play more than 3 games in a row at the Dees which describes ex-Saint Jamie Cripps as well. With Cox and Nic Nat the loss of Lynch is no biggie and Wellingham will slot in nicely. Came out ahead.
WESTERN BULLDOGS
Received:
-Pick 21 (Hawthorn) as part of Lake/pick 27 deal
-Pick 41 (Hawthorn) as part of Lake/pick 27 deal
-Koby Stevens (West Coast) for pick 44
-Tom Young (Collingwood) for pick 71
Lost:
-Brian Lake (Hawthorn) as part of pick 21/pick 41 deal
-Pick 27 (Hawthorn) as part of pick 21/pick 41 deal
-Pick 44 (West Coast) for Koby Stevens
-Pick 71 (Collingwood) for Tom Young
Wash Up: Considering their finish to 2012 I would have thought they would have been alot more active, losing Brian Lake is akin to a level 5 hurricane, Koby Stevens and Tom Young should get a run but Lake is going to hurt , OUCH.
