Richmond and Carlton play the usual first game of the year, with Hawthorn and Geelong playing their customary Easter Monday game, their rivalry seemed over the last year but with the cats obtaining Dangerfield, Henderson, Scott Selwood and Zac Smith in the trade period they could be poised for another crack at finals.
Melbourne plays the newest expansion side GWS after playing the second newest last year in Gold Coast, Essendon will travel to Metricon with new coach John Worsfold at the helm, Collingwood travel to Sydney to play at ANZ where they have a tremendous record, in a repeat of their round 1 clash last year Adelaide and North Melbourne will play this time at Etihad with the Crows having their third coach in the space of a year in Don Pyke, Bulldogs played the Eagles round 1 at Etihad last year this year they play the other WA side in Fremantle at the same venue. Port and Saints are at Adelaide Oval and Lions have a daunting task of travelling to Perth to tackle losing Grand Finalists of 2015 West Coast with Jack Redden former Lion to face his old side, other players who could possibly face their former team are Chris Yarran former Blue now at Richmond, Tomas Bugg former Giant now Dee.
